Media and film studies at York ranks 12th in Guardian University Guide 2027

The School of Arts and Creative Technologies has placed 12th in the Guardian University Guide 2027 for the subject of Media and film studies. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

The School of Arts and Creative Technologies has placed 12th in the Guardian University Guide 2027 for the subject of Media and film studies. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

Our Head of School, Professor Tom Cantrell said: 

“I’m delighted by this recognition of our innovative teaching across our film, television and interactive media programmes at York. It reflects the strength of our collaborative work across the School and our commitment to creativity in all its various and diverse forms.”

The Guardian University Guide is published annually to help students choose a university course. It ranks UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects in metrics such as student satisfaction, continuation, spend per student and graduate outcomes.

York’s overall position

In total, four subjects at York ranked in the UK top 10:

  • General Nursing - 5th
  • Midwifery - 8th
  • Mental Health Nursing - 9th
  • Medicine - 10th (Hull York Medical School)

A further five subjects ranked in the UK top 20.

  • Media and film studies - 12th
  • History of Art - 14th
  • Criminology - 16th
  • Chemistry - 17th
  • Antropology and Archaeology - 20th
