Bioscience: The Musical! was an event that took place on Thursday 5th June 2025 at the School of Arts and Creative Technologies East in the Large Rehearsal Room. The first theatre collaboration between Biology and the School of Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of York.

The event was a musical theatre style performance where students from the University worked with researchers based in the Biology department and adapted the lyrics of popular songs to explain specific research. The students had two weeks to get to know each other, learn about the research, adapt lyrics, create choreography and perform the show! The event, which was included in the York Festival of Ideas, was a huge success, with tickets selling out during the first 48 hours.

The project was created by Ciara Loughrey and produced by Ciara and Emma Boneham.

“Running this project has been great fun so far. The team did a brilliant job on this project and we are really excited to see what comes next for Bioscience: The Musical! There has been so much enthusiasm from within Biology and from others at the University, and we hope the project can expand into different areas of research that is happening at the University of York. ”
