Last week saw the premiere of Virtual Showcase II – an online celebration of the hard work and determination of our students and staff to continue making music during these difficult times!

Featuring everything from Bach to Beyoncé, this free online performance saw music, video and technology combine to create a scintillating spectacle that offered an extraordinary insight into the ingenuity and creativity of our community.

The programme included solo pieces by Bach, Haydn, Chopin, Fauré, Mendelssohn and Prokofiev; contemporary works by York-based composers James Redelinghuys, Ben Eyes, Neil Sorrell and Owen Russell; three short 'protests' songs sung by internationally-renowned mezzo-soprano Lore Lixenberg, with visualisations by audio-visual maker Lynette Quek; and music performed by student-run ensembles, including 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley, 'Lovely' by Billie Eilish and 'You've Got a Friend in Me' by Randy Neman.
