Helen McCrory OBE (1968-2021)

The TFTI community were greatly saddened by last month's news of the death of Helen McCrory. A celebrated star of British Theatre, Film and Television, Helen was awarded an Honorary Degree by the University of York in 2016. Professor Duncan Petrie, Head of Department

During her visit to York she met with students and staff, providing great insight, advice and inspiration in the process. Among her most memorable roles are Lady Macbeth at Shakespeare's GlobeOlivia in Twelfth Night and Rosalind in As You Like It in the West EndCherie Blair in both The Queen (2006) and The Special Relationship (2010), Narcissa Malfoy in the final three Harry Potter filmsMama Jeanne in Martin Scorsese's Hugo (2011), Clair Dowar in the James Bond film Skyfall (2012), Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders (2013–2019), Emma Banville in Fearless (2017) and Kathryn Villiers in MotherFatherSon (2019). She is a great loss to our Creative Industries.
