Artists’ Care: Supporting musicians working in challenging and complex contexts
LMB/002 and LMB Atrium, Law and Sociology Building, Campus East, University of York (Map)
Event details
Artists’ Care is a one-day knowledge exchange event bringing together cultural organisations, sector stakeholders, practitioners, and researchers to address the wellbeing of musicians working in challenging and complex contexts (e.g. immigration detention settings, prisons, or care settings) or with people who may have experienced multi-layered vulnerabilities (e.g. newly arrived migrants and care-experienced young people). At this event we will share models and principles of care to enable the co-development of future research and practice priorities for this sector of the music industry. All who are working as a musician or with musicians facilitating this kind of work are encouraged to attend, especially those who have insights, experiences, perspectives, or guidance on how best to ensure that those working in these contexts are able to flourish.
Event sessions will take place from 10:00-16:00 followed by an informal opportunity for people to gather and reflect on the day (from 16:00-18:00). Light refreshments will be provided in the morning and afternoon but lunch will not be provided (there are places nearby on campus to buy food). The university building that the event is taking place in is accessible but please let us know as soon as possible if there are any additional preparations we can make to ensure your full participation in the event (email Dr Naomi Norton, naomi.norton@york.ac.uk).
If you are unable to attend this event in person but would like to stay in touch about the outcomes and ongoing plans for the project please do not register using this link as capacity is limited, instead you can indicate your interest in staying in touch using this Google Form: Interest in Artists’ Care Event (https://forms.gle/
Trigger warnings
Presentations and discussions at this event will centre around work taking place in complex and challenging settings (e.g. immigration detention settings, prisons, or care settings) and with people who may have experienced multi-layered vulnerabilities (e.g. newly arrived migrants and care-experienced young people): as a result, it is likely that some of the topics covered may be sensitive or distressing.
