Please note motocycle/moped permits are free of charge however you are required to complete a parking permit application form.

West Periphery Staff Permit

(Parking only allowed at Fairfax House, Eden's Court and Halifax College)

A Free Bus Pass to use on Unibus between the University Campus and Heslington Road (bus stop less than 5 minutes from Fairfax House)

Staff Part-Week Permit

0.6% of annual salary pro-rated for number of days selected each week.

Student Car Parking Permit


Undergraduate Car Parking Permit only allows to park in South Car Park pay and display, Fairfax House Halifax College, Eden's Court and Kimberlow Lane (Heslington East)

Halifax College Student Resident Permit

£35.00 (non refundable)

Halifax College is the only  University of York college that is able to offer parking to students that do not require it on medical or physical ability grounds in 2014/15 academic year.

70 Halifax College Student parking permits will be issued to new and returning college residents on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • Only students who have accepted accommodation in Halifax College for the academic year 2014/15 are eligible to apply.
  • The permits will be valid only in Halifax College car parks between 16 September 2014 until 30 June 2015.
  • The cost of each permit is £35; this should be paid in full before the permit is issued
  • Halifax College Student permits are not refundable (irrespective of circumstances) and cannot be transferred to a vehicle owned by any other individual.

Staff Only - Flexible Parking Permit 70 Hangers

Staff Only - Flexible Parking Permit 70 Hangers
Limit of 70 hangers per member of staff, per transport year. Each hanger can be used for one day of parking. Apply online for initial 10, then any additional hangers can be purchased in multiples of 10 from the Parking Helpdesk at Information Centre over the transport year (1st April -31st March). 
The first batch of 10 hangers will cost £10, any additional batches will be charged at £15. Maximum of 70 hangers per transport year.
This permit is aimed at staff who cycle, walk or take the bus, but also need to occasionally use the car, i.e. when it’s raining or when carrying heavy items. This Permit is issued to staff who do not have any type of parking permit, but can be used in conjunction with cycle schemes or bus tickets.

Terms and conditions:

  • Staff with a current parking permit are not eligible.
  • Staff with this offer are not eligible to apply for the West Periphery or Part-Week Permits.
  • Apply online, using online application form, for first batch. Any additional batches can be purchased directly from the Information Centre.
  • Hanger permits expire December 2017.
  • All details must be completed on the front of the hanger in permanent ink (any completed in pencil will not be accepted as a valid permit).
  • Scratch out Day, Date, Month and Year, write your vehicle registration into the space provided and your permit number into the ‘For Use’ box.
  •  Each permit is valid for one day only and must not be reused.
  • Only to be used in vehicles registered to the permit holder. To add additional vehicles (maximum of 3) please contact the Parking Helpdesk.
  • The permit is non transferrable.
  • The permit must be clearly displayed and visible from the outside.

Vehicles not displaying a valid permit as indicated above, or not parked in a designated parking bay, are liable to be issued with a Parking Charge Notice.
Please note, if your circumstances change during the transport year you will be permitted to apply for a different parking permit, however you will be required to return all unused hanger permits. Any hanger permits which have already been used will need to be repaid to the value of £4.50/£5.00 per hanger (the daily car parking rate of £6.00 per day, minus the £1.50/£1 already paid).


* Where there is a change to parking at this location, staff will receive a pro-rate reimbursement.

Where should I send my completed paper application?


Paper Permit Application Forms - Please return your completed application form to the Parking Permits Help Desk, Information Centre Market Square, marked for the attention of Parking Permits Help Desk either in person or via internal mail. Applications in person will be processed as soon as possible, postal applications will usually be processed and returned to you within five working days, however incomplete forms will be returned to the applicant for completion.

On-Line Applications - You will receive e-mail confirmation of receipt of application. When your permit has been authorised you will receive e-mail confirmation and your permit will be issued via post as soon as possible normally within five working days from confirmation.


.On-Line Applications - You will receive e-mail confirmation of receipt of application. You will be asked by e-mail to bring the following documents along with your payment to the Information Centre Help Desk when your parking permit application has been authorised.

How can I pay?

We can accept payment by cash, cheque (if supported by a valid guarantee card) or credit/debit card. For Staff applications you pay through your salary with monthly deductions of 0.6% this rate is valid until March 2014.

The Kings Manor Out of Hours permits are available for authorised members of University staff on payment of the fee as detailed above. This will entitle you to park at The Kings Manor between 1800 hours and 0800 hours Monday to Thursday and 1800 hours on Friday until 0800 hours Monday. These permits are available using the On-Line application process or you can get a paper application from the Parking Permits Help Desk, Information Centre, Market Square.

I've changed my car, what do I do?

Please use the On-Line system to note your changes, you will need your permit number and pin number.

Your old permit must be returned to the Information Centre either in the internal mail or by person, your application form is updated with your new vehicle details and a new permit will be issued.

You will need to visit the Information Centre and return your old permit, you must provide the Registration Document (V5) and your Certificate of Insurance (or temporary cover note) for your new vehicle. Your application form will be updated and a new permit issued.

I already have a permit, but my car is in the garage and I have a hire car, what do I do for a permit?

The Help Desk will issue a temporary permit. These are avalible for both staff and students. There is no charge. You can either e-mail details to with your permit number and details of the care hire (registration number, make and colour) or call into the Help Desk, Information Centre, Market Square.
