Visas and immigration
In order to be a full time student in the UK, many overseas students will need to apply for a visa.

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS)
Postgraduate students applying for certain science, engineering or technology courses may need to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate before applying for a Visa, Entry Clearance or Extension of Stay.
