BA Criminology

Our BA Criminology degree course offers you a distinctive programme focusing on the cultural aspects of criminology and criminal justice policy. From a core introduction to the subject, later on in the programme you will have the flexibility to tailor your degree to specialist interests in the field.

Programme overview

In the first year you are introduced to core aspects of criminology, and some training in key academic skills. Year 1 also includes study in core  social science disciplines as a foundation for years two and three.

In the second year you will take two specialist modules covering criminal justice policy and the cultural aspects of criminology. You will also study Social Research Methods which includes preparatory work for your third year dissertation. In addition, you will choose one option module.

In the third year you will study more advanced criminology alongside specialist modules from a wide range of topic areas and disciplines. You will study one module in the Department of Politics and have the opportunity to study in the Department of Law.
