The YESI Fellows Scheme is a groundbreaking environmental sustainability research initiative that supports University of York (UoY) staff and collaborators, enabling them to undertake short-term projects that advance knowledge exchange and research in environmental sustainability across boundaries and disciplines.

What sets the YESI Fellows Scheme apart is its ability to foster collaboration across the entire University, bringing together researchers from diverse faculties and facilitating partnerships with local, national and international organisations (both academic and non-academic).  These projects accelerate impactful activity, driving forward environmental sustainability initiatives that would not be possible without such cross-disciplinary engagement and partnership.  We offer three schemes: discipline hopping, knowledge exchange and international fellowships.

The scheme is open to applicants with a PhD from all areas of the University of York, meaning researchers at all career stages from postdoc to professor can apply.  Our inclusive approach to eligibility has been recognised as an example of the University’s EDI best practice.  University of York’s EDI Research Framework (Feb 2025, p. 23).

The application window for the 2024–25 academic year is now closed.  We expect to reopen the scheme in September 2025.  If you have a project idea and are interested in applying in the next round, please email yesi@york.ac.uk to request the call guidelines.

Looking for collaborators? The YESI Community Directory Directory is a great place to start connecting with potential research partners.
