Depending on your area of study, you may be able to apply for postgraduate study or a work placement at one of our European partner universities or a host organisation.

How long will I be abroad?

European study exchanges: three months minimum.

Work placement for credit (abroad): two months minimum, with the total duration depending on your course. Speak to your Department about the possibility of your work placement taking place at a European host organisation.

Global support

When you start at York, your Department and the Centre for Global Programmes team will give you information and help you plan your time abroad.

Destinations for exchanges

We currently partner with a number of universities in Europe; these opportunities may change from year to year. When you arrive here, you will be able to attend events and speak to staff about things you should consider when applying for a partner university including:

  • courses offered
  • accommodation
  • finance and funding.

Where you can go also depends on your area of study at York. Some exchanges require additional language skills and are listed using the Common European Framework of Reference, eg B2 French.
