What do we do?

The Writing and Language Skills Centre offers a range of in-person and online help and support to improve your academic writing and develop your academic and language skills to a high standard.

We can help you:

  • transition to university study
  • develop key academic skills
  • improve your academic writing
  • develop critical thinking and analysis skills
  • build confidence in speaking
  • improve your English language

One-to-one writing support: Available from Week 4. Appointments can now be booked (up to two weeks in advance). If your query is urgent you can contact us and we will forward your query to one of our tutors.

Online skills support available 24/7.

One-to-one writing support

Receive personalised advice and guidance on your written work. Available for on-campus and distance students.

Group language sessions

Develop a specific aspect of your academic speaking or writing skills with up to five other students.

Academic skills lectures

In Term 1, learn about higher education and what the university expects of its students.

Skills development workshops

Develop the key academic, writing and speaking skills you need to study at your best in these interactive workshops.

Credit-bearing modules

Enhance your speaking and writing or develop your transcultural communication skills as part of your degree.

CertTESOL

Train with us to become an English language teacher and earn a professionally-recognised qualification.
