He has penned nine novels, four non-fiction books, and two essay collections. His works have garnered numerous prizes and are translated into over thirty languages.
Ghosh, whogrew up in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, has a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford.
He holds six honorary doctorates and has served on film festival juries. In 2018, he became the first English-language writer to receive India’s highest literary honor, the Jnanpith Award. He was awarded the Erasmus Prize in 2024 and elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife, writer Deborah Baker.
