Generative AI - Taught students guidance

As a valued part of our academic community, we ask you to play your role in the transition to AI enhanced education.

Please ensure you have read the information on the Generative AI tools webpage before you start using any recommended tools.

Google Gemini is the University's preferred generative AI tool because any data inputted is fully protected and chats are never used for training or human review by Google. You must sign into Gemini using your University credentials to ensure this.

We encourage responsible, ethical and transparent use of these tools. We also look to you to play a central role as we embrace this technology, by innovating, collaborating, and taking advantage of the opportunities it presents as well as facing the challenges it poses.

We recommend you:

  • Stay informed on institutional and school/department policy and guidance
  • Keep informed of expectations at module and assessment level
  • Reflect on the impact of generative AI in your field of study and future career plans
  • Be proactive and experiment with AI tools and have open dialogue with staff and classmates
  • Do not upload personal/sensitive/copyrighted material to generative AI
