More than just a place to live, your college provides you with a network of support as well as a full calendar of events and activities to help you meet people, develop skills and explore interests.
Colleges are managed by a dedicated team of staff who are here for you throughout your time at York. They help you learn to manage your wellbeing, develop the skills needed to overcome challenges, and seize the opportunities of university life. If there’s a problem you can’t solve on your own, they are able to provide coaching and guidance, or help you access the right support and information.
Activities and sports
Throughout the year, your college provides lots of ways to try something different and meet fellow students, with regular events such as quizzes, trips, parties, volunteering activities and film and TV nights. You can even get involved in your college student committee and run events yourself.
Every college is home to an array of sports teams who compete against other colleges every week. With an average of 20 teams playing more than 13 different sports in each college, college sport is a great way to get active and meet people, whatever your experience or skill level.
From arrivals day to the end of Freshers’ Week, new undergraduates are guided by a team of Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs). STYCs are older students from your college who help you to move in and make the best start to university life.
After Freshers’ Week, Second and Third Year Mentors (STYMs) take over and provide a friendly face and regular point of contact for questions, queries and concerns throughout your first year at York.
