Workload management survey: give your views
Posted on Wednesday 30 September 2026
In response to feedback from staff surveys, a joint Workload Management Group - combining representatives from senior leaders and trade unions - was established to identify and prioritise areas to help reduce and manage workload.
This group, alongside other members of academic and professional services staff, produced a set of principles for managing workload.
Workload remains an issue and a concern for different staff groups and across different parts of the University. Fluctuations in student numbers, the diversity of our student population and the increasing complexity of their needs, alongside staff reductions over recent years, have impacted on staff workload around the University.
Workload management survey
The Joint Workload Management Group is continuing to work together to address workload concerns and has co-created an engagement plan to listen to all colleagues about specific challenges to inform how it prioritises its activities and efforts.
The first part of this involves a workload management survey which is open to all staff throughout October.
The output from the survey will be discussed with senior leaders, the People and Remuneration Committee, and the Workload Management Group (including trade union representatives) to inform an updated action plan.
