Refreshing our status page, critical incident response
Posted on Monday 21 September 2026
We work hard to keep operational interruptions to a minimum however occasionally there are disruptions to services or to key facilities.
The University Status Page is actively used by staff and students looking for information if things aren’t running as expected.
Alongside a general update to the page functionality, we have introduced a new critical incident communication section, which will be used in the event of a crisis. This forms part of the improvements we are making around how we respond to emergency situations, in line with new Martyn’s Law requirements.
What’s new?
If we were to face a critical estate or IT emergency, a new critical incident communication section, which will remain completely hidden during normal operations, will be activated. It will serve as our official, single source of truth, with incident information shared only on the Status Page. It will be updated in real time by our Internal Communications team with information and instructions where necessary.
The page will be signposted through key communication channels and will also integrate into Slack, with updates automatically feeding directly into the #announcements channel.
In addition to this the page has been optimised so you can check regular service interruptions and active alerts more quickly and easily, and it remains the primary platform for day to day tracking across IT Services, the estate and the Library.
What we need you to do
If you haven’t already, please bookmark the Status Page on your web browser today so you can easily access daily operational updates.
Familiarise yourself and your teams with the page so that you know where to look for official, real time information if there were an emergency.
Be aware that we will carry out periodic testing of the emergency alert system. All scheduled tests will be communicated well in advance to prevent any undue alarm.
