The Quiet Place, situated in the historic gardens of Heslington Hall, has undergone an extensive programme of repair and refurbishment and is now open again for staff and students to enjoy.

This work began as a routine roof repair which then revealed a series of structural requirements. Estates Operations developed a comprehensive schedule of works designed to halt deterioration and modernise the space while respecting its original character.

The project was managed by John Armitage (Estates Operations), who coordinated closely with colleagues at Innovation Way and Dalham Farm. Given the heritage significance of the site, the team adopted a sympathetic and conservative approach to all interventions, ensuring the gazebo’s aesthetic integrity was maintained.

The restoration was delivered by our skilled in-house tradespeople working collaboratively with established contractors. They paid careful attention to detail, ensuring that the work met modern safety standards while achieving a high-quality, professional finish.

Staff and students can book this historic space via the Facilities Helpdesk.
