Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week is a national event to raise awareness of sexual abuse and violence and to provide an opportunity for discussion of the issues. It's held annually in the first full week of February.

We're proud to mark our commitment to raising awareness by presenting a full programme of events here at the University.

Athlete A Screening

Thursday 9 February 6:30pm

York Sport Union in collaboration with the University's Sexual Violence Liaison Officers will be providing a one-off educational screening of Netflix's documentary film Athlete A. The film details the first hand account of those who were sexually assaulted and abused by USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, and the prevailing investigation and trial, as well as the pursuit of justice of those who enabled him.

This is a free event, hosted in the Piazza Lecture Theatre / PZA 103 on Campus East - booking required.

It's All Our Responsibility Relay

Saturday 11 February 11am

It's everyone's responsibility to get a relay baton around a relay race, much like it is everyone's responsibility to tackle sexual violence in sport.

Starting and finishing at Greg's Place, this relay will be a 9km route covering both campuses - it is not designed to be a competition - there are no prizes or medals, and all participants should take the event at their own pace. Teams can be made up of up to nine people.

This event will also need marshals and volunteers to help out.
