Posted on 11 May 2017

Congratulations to two undergraduate students

Congratulations to Lewis Hales (History and Politics) and Pip Winship (Environment) for successfully being awarded prestigious Laidlaw Scholarships under the mentorship of Professor Jean Grugel.  The scholarship equips undergraduate students with the skills, knowledge and values for leadership by offering:

  • A leadership development programme which on completion is likely to lead to an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) qualification.
  • An additional £3,000 worth of leadership and development training provided to students over an 18-month period.
  • A research project of between 8-10 weeks duration, designed by the student and supervised by an academic research mentor.
  • £500 per week for 8 weeks fieldwork and an additional £1,000 is available to fund an extra two weeks of research or travel and accommodation expenses.

Only 25 scholarships were awarded and the process was highly competitive.

Lewis will be working on The Environmental Impacts of Rapid Urbanisation in South East Asia and Pip's project is The limitations and possibilities digital space for advancing socio-spatial justice in Singapore.
