Is regulation always bad for trust? Or can regulation and trust sometimes reinforce one another?

A new article by Bernardo Rangoni, David Levi-Faur, and Koen Verhoest develops a multi-layered framework for understanding the complex relationship between regulation and trust — moving beyond simplistic assumptions that the two are inevitably in tension.

The piece traces a genealogy of regulation–trust debates, proposes a five-part typology of trust–regulation relationships, and shows how these dynamics can shift across contexts, levels, and forms of governance.
