Foundation Year Cobham-Ultra Bursary
We are pleased to offer a bursary designed to support students studying one of our School's foundation year programmes in achieving their goals at the University of York.
Applications for 2026/27 are open until Friday 31 July 2026, 11.59pm BST
Those awarded this bursary will receive £1000 in semester 1 and £1000 in semester 2 of their Foundation Year, subject to the student being registered on the programme at the time of disbursement. Students can only receive the Foundation Year Cobham-Ultra Bursary in one year.

Eligibility
Open to UK (home) students only.
Open to students in the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology.
You must be intending to study one of the following courses with the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology:
- BSc Physics (with a foundation year)
- BEng Engineering (with a foundation year)
- BEng Electronic Engineering (with a foundation year)
- BEng Music Technology Systems (with a foundation year)
You must also:
- have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of York
Eligible students must:
- Be classified as Home (UK) in university admissions procedures
Eligible applicants must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Hold a contextual offer for one of the following programmes:
- BSc Physics (with a foundation year)
- BEng Engineering (with a foundation year)
- BEng Electronic Engineering (with a foundation year)
- BEng Music Technology Systems (with a foundation year)
- Be aged over 21 upon entry
- Have participated in a University of York Widening Participation Programme
- Have provided evidence to the University of York that you are classed as a refugee, refugee resident in the UK or under humanitarian protection
- Be classed as a commuting student
How to apply
Application deadline: Friday 31 July 2026, 11.59pm BST
Eligible offer holders will be emailed an application form, which will include space to provide a short personal statement of no more than 200 words. The deadline for applications is 31st July 2026.
Bursary recipients will be selected by 31st August 2026.
How we allocate
The Bursary is awarded to applicants based on the eligibility criteria. Submitting an application does not guarantee being allocated a bursary. Scholarship awardees will be selected by a panel of staff from the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology. In particular, the panel will prioritise applications from those who meet multiple eligibility criteria.
