Exploring the relationship between homosexuality and fascism

Posted on 23 April 2010

The complex relationship between homosexuality and fascism will be explored in a public lecture at the University of York.

In her lecture “The Killer in Me is the Killer in You: Homosexuality and Fascism”, Professor Judith Halberstam will consider the intersection of Nazi and homosexual.

In particular she will reconsider a seminal essay in this area from 1991, “The Contemporary Political Use of Gay History: The Third Reich” by Stuart Marshall, and try to account for both gay Nazis and the Nazi persecution of homosexuals.

We are very pleased to have the opportunity to hear her speak on this fascinating subject.”

The lecture, on Wednesday 28 April, will start at 4.15pm in the Bowland Auditorium which can be found in the Berrick Saul Building on the University campus. Admission is free. It will be followed by a wine reception hosted by the Centre for Women’s Studies and the Centre for Modern Studies.
