Free evening lectures explore house, landscape and collections.

Three hundred years of Castle Howard will be celebrated by the University of York in a series of six evening lectures which are open to the public. They will be given by Dr Christopher Ridgway, curator at Castle Howard.

The first lecture on Tuesday 27 April chronicles the building of Castle Howard and the colalboration between Charles Howard, John Vanbrugh and Nicholas Hawksmoor. It will include a look at recent restoration work. Other lectures will cover the landscape, the art and book collections at Castle Howard, the close relationship between the Howards and the pre-Raphaelites, and the challlenges now facing the great estate.

The lectures will be held at 8pm in Vanbrugh College (lecture room V/045) at the University of York. They are on consecutive Tuesdays starting on 27 April and finishing on 1 June. Admission is free and all are welcome.
