Ian Wand takes up Deputy Vice-Chancellor duties

Posted on 11 August 1999

Professor Ian Wand has become the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor after four and a half years as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor. He takes over from Professor Kel Fidler, who has been Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University for the last three years.

Professor Wand has worked in the Department of Computer Science since 1972 and was head of department from 1983 to 1992. As Deputy Vice-Chancellor he will still undertake some teaching and research, but his main responsibilities will be for the University's personnel, financial and student welfare policies. He is also Chair of the UK's Computer Science Panel for the next Research Assessment Exercise, which reports in 2001.

Professor Kel Fidler has worked in the Department of Electronics since 1989 and was head of department from 1990 until 1994. He has served as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor, from 1994 to 1997, and as Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 1997 to 1999, with responsibility for the University's teaching and information policies. He now returns full-time to his teaching and research in Electronics.
