Nurses of the future

Posted on 11 February 1999

Community nurses will be playing a vital role in the new Primary Care Groups being established all over the country in April, with locally based integrated services for each local community.

A programme responding to the dynamic and diverse roles played by primary care nurses is being offered by the University of York's department of Health Studies at their Education Centre in the new Strayside wing of Harrogate Hospital.

The programme is open to registered nurses with appropriate clinical experience and evidence of previous professional development study. Starting on 21 April, the Nurse Practitioner Programme is a two year part-time course. It is a clinically based programme and includes study topics such as history taking, the physical examination, managing the consultation, risk management and developing a whole practice strategy.

The course is fully-funded for NHS community and practice nurses working in North and East Yorkshire.
