Professor Alasdair MacIntyre to speak on toleration

Professor Alasdair MacIntyre will give this year's JB and WB Morrell memorial address on Toleration at the University of York on Tuesday 26 May. The title of his lecture will be 'Toleration and the Goods of Conflict'.

Professor MacIntrye is one of the most famous and respected of contemporary philosophers. He has held senior positions at universities in both the UK and the USA. He is currently Arts and Sciences Professor of Philosophy at Duke University in the USA having taught at, amongst others, Oxford, Princeton, Boston University and Notre Dame University. Amongst his many books his trilogy, After Virtue, Whose Justice? Which Rationality? and Three Rival Versions of Moral Enquiry have offered a profound challenge to current liberal orthodoxy.

The annual Morrell lecture is intended to make a contribution to thought on the subject of toleration. Previous speakers include Lord Scarman, Baroness Warnock, Sir Edward Heath, Dr George Carey, Helena Kennedy QC and Rabbi Julia Neuberger.

The lecture will be given in P/X001 in the Physics/Electronics Building at 8pm on Tuesday 26 May. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Admission free.
