Health students receive awards at York

Over 200 students from the University of York's department of Health Studies will receive awards at a ceremony in the University's Central Hall on 29 July. They will include newly qualified nurses, experienced nurses and health service managers.

Amongst the students will be the department's first three degree students who will receive their BA Honours degrees in Health Studies (Critical Care). Newly qualified nurses will receive the Diploma in Health Studies. Management awards will also feature, in particular the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Service Management.

The Celebration of Achievement will also feature an honorary degree award for the first time. Dame Rennie Fritchie, a management consultant specialising in leadership in the health service, will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of the University.

All the awards - diplomas and degrees - will be conferred on students by the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ron Cooke.

  • The Department of Health Studies is the former North Yorkshire College of Health Studies. It was incorporated into the University in 1996.
  • Dame Rennie Fritchie will be presented for her degree by Mrs Helen Jones, Director of the Centre for Leadership Development in the Department of Health Studies.
