Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre event

As part of their new partnership, the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre and the Institute for Collective Health of the Federal University of Bahia invite you to the screening of two documentary shorts. The films “Orobó e o cinema delas” (Orobó and Their Cinema) and “O tempo das coisas” (The Time of Things) were produced as part of the ECLIPSE research programme, a five-year healthcare project on leishmaniasis in Brazil, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the Arts Team of the ECLIPSE programme.

First film: OROBÓ E O CINEMA DELAS (Orobó and Their Cinema) a film made by the women collective Coletivo de Mulheres Orobó das Belezas from the community of Orobó - Valença (Bahia, Brazil), with the accompaniment of the project ECLIPSE Arts Team. The documentary, which was recorded for over two years, in a process of collective audiovisual community creation, tells life stories, dreams, daily lives and knowledge of the women in the collective, who are also characters in this story.

Second film: O TEMPO DAS COISAS (The Time of Things) a film that moves between contemplation and distracted gaze and captures subtle ways in the daily life of the delicacies of the São Paulinho community. The film was made between 2022 and 2023 and is the result of sensitive listening to people who plant, miss, sing, declare love, cry, pray, and laugh.
