Event details

In 2022 and 2023, the Humanities Research Centre ran the "Creative Encounters" project supported by the Enhancing Research Culture Fund. One branch of this project was Visual Talking Points, whose goal was to capture something of the research in Arts and Humanities at York in a form that would lead to conversations. The work was led by Alexandra Gushurst-Moore, and she brought local artists into departmental research meetings within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and asked them to create work (without limitation!) that responded to the current research and research culture.

Artists include: Lincoln Lightfoot, Boxxhead, Amy D'Agorne, Rob Burton, Katie Lewis, Jade Blood, Joanna Lisowiec. These artworks have now found their home on the walls of the Humanities Research Centre.

Join us for the exhibition launch, where you will have a chance to see the artwork up close and then hear from the artists themselves about the thinking behind their creations. The event will be followed by drinks and nibbles in the foyer of the Berrick Saul Building.

Evening schedule

  • 5.30pm: Arrivals / view the artwork (Berrick Saul Building Foyer)
  • 5.45pm: Hear from the Humanities Research Centre, Alexandra Gushurst-Moore (Project Lead), Helena Cox (University of York Art Curator), and the Artists. (The Bowland Auditorium)
  • 6.50pm: Drinks reception (Berrick Saul Building Foyer)

Join us in welcoming this vibrant cohort of contemporary artists’ works into the Humanities Research Centre, enriching it with a distinct and bold voice that represents what we do and what we stand for.
