Black holes are well-established objects in astrophysics. But how could we observe the interplay between black holes and quantum phenomena? With black holes in the sky, the prospects are slim, but with analogue spacetime black holes created in the laboratory, observational evidence of quantum phenomena is at the very threshold of current technology. This talk reviews the theoretical background and experimental prospects of laboratory simulations of classical and quantum black holes, including observations completed and under development in the Nottingham/Manchester Gravity Laboratory.
