Public Sector Leaders

In this thought provoking event, David Smith will reflect on his leadership experiences from 26 years of senior and board level procurement roles and 11 years as one of the UK government's most significant and influential Commercial Directors. He was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2009 New Year Honours and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. David will present in discussion with Dr Alex Gillett (University of York School for Business & Society) whose research includes works on public sector procurement and collaboration, and has been published in journals including Public Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Public Money & Management, and Project Management Journal.

Additionally, David will draw on two other areas of common interest, sport and music. Notably this includes David's interesting experiences as an FA qualified Football Referee and as a musician whose name might be familiar to those interested in the history of one of the UK's most successful bands, Iron Maiden. This parallels other areas of Alex's published research, and promises rich discussion.
