Sociolinguistics
For many years, we have been research leaders in language variation and change, sociophonetics and the applications of research into forensic speech science.
Our research into variation extends to language attitudes, perceptions of variation, dialectology and the different features which characterise varieties of English. Recent projects include studies of accent and dialect variation in England, either country-wide or in specific regions, such as the North East and London.
