Forensic Speech Science
Our research in forensic speech science has a major focus on the combination of advanced linguistic expertise in phonetics and sociophonetics with cutting-edge technology used in speaker recognition.
We are engaged in several funded projects, many in collaboration with partners outside York, including Nuance and Aculab.
Our current work focuses on:
- speaker comparison
- exploring the complementarity of linguistic analysis and automatic speaker recognition
- language analysis in the asylum process
- understanding ear-witness performance
