A new look for the Duo Mobile app

Posted on 9 September 2021

From Monday 11 October, Version 4.0.0 of the Duo Mobile app will be released on the iOS App Store and the Android Google Play Store.

The Duo Mobile app is the app you use for two-factor authentication when you log in to University services such as the VPN, Virtual Desktop Service and e:vision.

What has changed?

This update retains all of the same functionality of the current Duo Mobile app, including being able to receive push notifications or generate passcodes when logging in to Duo-protected University services.

However, the app has been given a new look. One of the most noticeable changes comes when responding to a push notification in the app. The Approve and Deny buttons have been swapped around, with Approve now placed on the right side of the screen.

How do I get the update?

If you have automatic app updates enabled on your device, you will receive the new version of Duo Mobile automatically. You can also update Duo Mobile manually:

Please note it may take up to a week (starting Monday 11 October) for this update to become available on all devices.

Upon the release of Version 4.0.0, the minimum supported operating systems versions will be iOS 13 and Android 8. If you are running an older version of iOS or Android, we encourage you to update your device if you can:

What if my device can’t get the update?

If your device is not capable of running at least iOS 13 or Android 8, then you will not be able to use Version 4.0.0 of the Duo Mobile app. However, older versions of the Duo Mobile app will continue to work normally.

Alternatively you can switch to using one of the alternative authentication methods:
