ICYMI - information for returners

Been away for the summer? Here's what you may have missed from the Library and IT Services in recent months.

The student printing service was updated with a new, simpler system. If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need to update the print queue on any of your own devices that you use to print - the new queue is called printcloud on print.york.ac.uk. We’ve gone cashless for more secure and reliable top-ups, and we’ve reduced the minimum online top-up to just £1.

We're supporting you to build your study skills. Our Digital Skills Training offers eight core sessions that run each term, covering areas like digital tools, using academic sources, and academic Googling, plus weekly Digital Wednesday sessions. Our online skills guides now offer Academic Skills Tutorials, including academic writing.

The Fairhurst Kitchen is now a permanent student facility, following a successful trial. With a microwave and hot water boiler, you can prepare yourself hot drinks and snacks at any time of the day or night.

Our popular laptop loans service has been extended to the Library@Piazza, with 24 loan laptops available in the learning space on the 2nd floor of the Piazza Building.

New self issue machines in the Library are making it quicker and easier for you to borrow books. Logging in is easier, and you can scan multiple books in one go.

We've launched a new wifi network for games consoles as they can't authenticate to eduroam. The new network is called mydevices - it's only available for games consoles at the moment but we're hoping to add other devices that can't authenticate (like smart TVs and smart speakers) soon. You can also connect all of these devices to our wired network.
