Using Woodland Trust paper across campus

Posted on 12 September 2017

With the release of HP’s new inkjet technology Pagewide we found the print quality on our existing paper was falling below the standard we expected.

HP Pagewide devices have significantly lower costs for colour printing, lower energy overheads and fast print speeds so it is a technology we are rolling out where suitable across campus.

After testing many different types of paper we have decided to use Woodland Trust paper across all devices at the University. As well as being cheaper than our previous paper, it is a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, sustainable product and for every ream of paper we purchase a 5p contribution is made to the Woodland Trust for the planting of native UK forests to counteract the carbon emitted during the paper-production process. You can read more about the benefits of the Woodland Trust’s Office Paper in their brochure.

Our year to date figures for our contributions to the Woodland Trust are as follows:

  • Paper purchased in tonnes: 41
  • Square metres of new native woodland planted: 571
  • Tonnes of CO2 captured as a result: 23
