This update only affects visitors who use CityConnect - staff and students should use the eduroam network which offers better speed and security.
The main change that will result from the update is that new accounts created at either the University or in York city centre can only be used at that location rather than at both as is currently the case. CityConnectWifi will still be available to use at the University and in York city centre, but you will now have to create an account for each location.
It is no longer mandatory to supply a phone number when creating a new account at the University.

In order to continue to connect to CityConnectWiFi at the University, existing users will need to accept the new terms and conditions when prompted and re-register their account. The change to the terms and conditions will mean that it’s no longer mandatory to supply a telephone number in order to connect here at the University.
Existing user accounts will continue to be valid in York city centre but users will still be required to provide a telephone number in order to connect to the network.
