Award for IT Services

Posted on 6 April 2016

Our monitoring processes have been commended by UCISA (University and Colleges Information Systems Association).

Heidi Fraser-Krauss and Andrew Main are presented with a Commended certificate in the 2016 UCISA Award for Excellence.

We recently submitted our end to end monitoring processes, which includes our status board, and related systems, for the UCISA Award for Excellence.

Our entry explained how we set out to put in place automated real-time end-to-end monitoring of key business systems, and to provide live information on availability of systems for staff and students. On top of this, we also wanted to provide ourselves with detailed statistics, implement alerting for relevant staff, and make monitoring, graphing, and analysis of statistics/metrics a routine part of all our projects. We explained how we are now able to take a proactive approach to systems management. We can spot and fix broken or degraded systems, often before there's any noticeable impact.

Our submission was commended by UCISA's judging panel, and Heidi Fraser-Krauss and Andrew Male were presented with the certificate at the recent UCISA conference. You can find details of all the submissions on the UCISA website:

Congratulations to all involved, especially Emma Barnes and John Cooper who developed and implemented the status board.
