Database downtime affecting systems on 8 & 15 December

We are carrying out work to improve our database system which will necessitate two significant periods of downtime for a number of systems on Tuesday 8 and Tuesday 15 December.

We appreciate that this will have a significant impact on many of you, but it is important that this work takes place. If you have any questions, please email itsupport@york.ac.uk. During the period of the downtime, we'll keep you updated of any issues using our Twitter feed:

Tuesday 8 December

We're migrating all our Oracle databases to take advantage of newly improved central data storage infrastructure. This work will take place between 7am and 10.30am. While we carry out the work, all our Oracle databases will be unavailable, and numerous applications and systems which rely on them will also be out of action.

The affected systems include, but are not limited to:

  • Shibboleth (logins to apps including Kinetics, YorSearch, MyView, online journals, and staff and student home pages)
  • Agresso
  • Authorised systems registration
  • Bulk email tool
  • Business Objects
  • Course Bookings
  • Confluence (University Wiki)
  • Data Warehouse
  • EVision
  • IDM (identity management system ie password changes, password reset, account registration)
  • Footprints incident management system (used by a number of departments)
  • GIT/SVN
  • Jira
  • Kaba (door locks)
  • Kronos
  • Online feedback system
  • Online directory
  • People database, including management of associates
  • Pfact
  • Planon
  • Pure (Research system)
  • ResourceLink
  • SITS
  • Teaching drive
  • VLE

Tuesday 15 December

We're upgrading two databases, which are key for many systems and applications. The work will take place between 8:00am and 10:00am. A number of business systems will be unavailable.

The affected systems include, but are not limited to:

  • Shibboleth (which manages logins to systems including the VLE, eVision, Kinetics, Pure, Planon, MyView, YorSearch, online journals, and the staff & student home pages)
  • Authorised systems registration
  • Bulk email tool
  • ColdFusion, and applications which rely on ColdFusion
  • Course Bookings
  • Data Warehouse Management
  • IDM (identity management system ie password changes, password reset, account registration)
  • Footprints incident management system (used by a number of departments)
  • Online feedback system
  • Online directory
  • People database, including management of associates
