Non-compatible Windows 11 devices
IT Services are currently upgrading all staff laptops and PCs to Windows 11.
This is a necessary step as Windows 10 goes out of support in October 2025.
Staff devices are upgraded to Windows 11 automatically however you can also upgrade your device yourself, at a time more convenient to you.
Non-compatible devices
During this upgrade process we have identified a number of devices which are not compatible with Windows 11 and which will need to be removed or replaced. We have been working closely with departments to identify these devices and agree on next steps.
From 19 June a message will appear on the lock screen of all non-compatible devices, explaining that the device cannot be upgraded to Windows 11.
Message on screen
Important, please read:
Your device has been identified as being non-compatible with Windows 11 and will need to be removed or replaced by 18 August. It will not function after this date. Please select the Windows 10 device support icon in your Start menu for next steps.
You will be directed to the ‘Windows 10 device support’ icon which provides instructions for next steps.
In the majority of cases, your department will have already contacted you and no action will be required.
However, there are a small number of non-compatible devices across the University for whom a user has not been identified and a solution needs to be agreed.
