We specialise in courses

  • in academic communication (writing and speaking)
  • for prospective and current teachers of English
  • in everyday English

We enable our students to achieve greater independence and higher levels of criticality.

Our approach to learning and teaching is informed by our combined experience of teaching in 25 different countries and by up-to-the-minute research. Members of our teaching team are active in this research.

What we offer

CELT offers workshops and courses in the following areas:

  • Academic reading and writing skills – essays, reports, dissertations and theses; critical thinking
  • Academic speaking and listening skills – lectures, presentations, seminar participation

For University of York students, CELT aims to help everyone

  • integrate into the international environment of the University
  • become full members of the international academic community

For practising and prospective teachers, CELT aims to help its clients

  • develop their teaching skills through practice-based learning
