Event details

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in partnership with the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD)Winds of Hope  / NoNoma Federation and Inediz are organising the online event “Noma, a disease that shouldn’t exist anymore”.

The event seeks to raise awareness about noma, a disease affecting children living in extreme poverty. Whilst easily treatable if diagnosed early on, in later stages noma destroys the facial tissue and leads to death in 90% of cases.

During the event, Dr Ioana Cismas (CAHR & York Law School) will give a talk about the work of the interdisciplinary team of researchers and practitioners within the framework of the Noma project. The findings of the project will serve to provide empirical and conceptual data for the inclusion of noma in the World Health Organisation list of Neglected Tropical Diseases.
