Remembering Jess Wardman

News | Posted on Friday 3 July 2020

We are sad to announce that Dr Jess Wardman passed away suddenly on the 28 May, 2020.

Jess was a Senior Lecturer at the University of York Management School. Our thoughts are with her partner, son, family and friends.

Jess was a modern-day polymath. On completing her PhD in Biology, following an MPhil in Maths, Jess joined the school full-time in 2013 as Lecturer in Operations Management. A firm favourite of students, for whom she was a tireless advocate, Jess also enriched wider university life through Senate, the Standing Committee on Assessment, the York Cross-Disciplinary Centre for Systems Analysis, and as key contributor to the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team. Jess will also be remembered as an inspiring member of the LGBT+ community.

Family and friends attended Jess’s funeral in June, and the Management School held a celebration of her life that was attended by staff from across this university and beyond.

Should you wish to remember Jess through a donation, please consider the ones close to her heart: Mermaids and the Greyhound Trust.
