Jared trained as a protein chemist and received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Liverpool in 1996. Subsequently, Jared held two postdoctoral positions at the University of Liverpool where he gained a solid background in recombinant DNA/protein technology which enabled the functional characterisation of several unknown open reading frames (orf's) and led to many publications. Jared joined the Technology Facility in 2002 as Head of Protein Production and went on to set up the current facility. |

Mick graduated in Applied Biology at the University of Leeds in 1998 and has since worked as an academic Research Technician in both Leeds and York universities. Primarily, his duties in Leeds were to support the purification of viral proteins where he gained proficiency in a variety of techniques, including cloning and subcloning, protein purification, analysis of proteins by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. A move to York in 2001 enabled him to work with Dr Michael Schultze in the area of plant molecular biology studying the development of high-throughput techniques for the generation of mutant plants. Mick has now returned to protein biochemistry through his role as technician in the Protein Production laboratories. Primarily Mick's responsibilities are molecular biology, fermentation and protein purification and his key equipment responsibilities are bioreactors and maintenance of the cell culture provision. | |

Rebecca Preece Technology Facility Department of Biology (Area 15) University of York Wentworth Way York YO10 5DD UK Office: +44 (0)1904 32 Lab: +44 (0)1904 32 8795 Fax: +44 (0)1904 32 8804 Email: rd513@york.ac.uk |
Rebecca joined the Technology Facility to provide support to the Proteomics laboratory on a 2-D gel based project before moving to her current role where she works as a Research Technician for Protein Production. Rebecca is a graduate of Biochemistry from Liverpool University where she went on to provide teaching laboratory support for several years. Following this, she moved to Sheffield Hallam University where she had been working as a teaching laboratory assistant. In the Protein Production lab, Rebecca takes responsibility for molecular biology, shake-flask based protein expression, protein purification and protein quality analysis. Equipment responsibilities include incubators, AKTA purification systems and imaging instrumentation. Rebecca is also an inter-disciplinary Research Technician providing support to the Genomics Laboratory (covers one of the two weekly DNA sequence services) and the Proteomics Laboratory where required (2D-gel work).
