The Reid Scholarship: Investing in the Future of Archaeology - Promoting the study of archaeology by removing some financial barriers for under-represented groups. This scholarship supports the University’s commitment to widening participation by prioritising BAME applicants and students facing socioeconomic, educational, or societal barriers.

Eligibility

Open to UK (home) students only.

Open to students in the Department of Archaeology.

Payments are made in two instalments of £2,000 in January and April.

Open to HOME undergraduate students in the Department of Archaeology. Priority is given to BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) students. Remaining awards are available to students meeting one or more of the following Widening Participation (WP) criteria:

  • Low Household Income: Students from disadvantaged financial backgrounds.
  • Low Participation Neighbourhood: Residency in POLAR 4 Quintile 1 or 2 areas.
  • First Generation: Students whose parents did not attend university.
  • Care Experienced or Estranged: Students who have been in care or are estranged from family.
  • School/College Context: Attending non-selective state schools or schools with low Progress 8 scores.
  • Disability: Students with physical or mental disabilities.
  • Ethnic Minority Background: Including Black, South Asian, and Traveller communities.
  • Mature Students: Individuals returning to education.
  • Special Circumstances: Including refugee status or military families.
