Department Success at University of York Student Community and Volunteering Awards

Department of Archaeology students celebrated their success at the 2025 University of York Student Community and Volunteering Awards recognising the volunteering success for Heritage Planning Studio (Planning Club) in partnership with York Civic Trust and for supporting the work of York Unlocked. The enterity of Heritage Planning Studio 24-25 was successful in their nomination with Odile Mok (MA Conservation of Historic Buildings) and Matthew Richardson (MA International Conservation Studies) present on the night to collect the award. With April Mitchell (MA Field Archaeology) recognised for work supporting York Unlocked (April is also a volunteer for Heritage Planning Studio so is a double award winner). These awards recognise and celebrate the commitment and lasting impact of our students in the wider community.
Heritage Planning Studio is our unique, award winning collaboration with York Civic Trust, giving students on our post-graduate programmes opportunities to develop professional practice skills through appraising planning applications in York. Heritage Planning Studio will celebrate 10 years of success later in June with a showcase event bringing together alumni, projects and reflections on a decade of impact in the city and within developing heritage skills in the UK. The 2025 Student Community and Volunteering Award is a brilliant recognition of the impact of our student volunteering work at the start of our celebrations.
