Green Impact Laboratory Accreditation for the BioArCh Labs
Posted on Thursday 1 October 2026
The Green Impact team, which formed in July last year, has held monthly committee meetings to discuss and plan the implementation of changes in the BioArCh laboratories to reduce the labs' environmental impact and carbon footprint.
Key changes, which were highlighted to all lab users through BioArCh's fortnightly lab meetings, include:
- Increasing recycling of Ezee-Filters™
- Encouraging lab users to fully close fume hood sashes to reduce energy consumption
- Raising awareness of the sustainability of the labs' DI water use
- Reducing reliance on single use plastic tubes
- Incorporating bioethanol into workflows to reduce fossil-based/synthetic ethanol usage in the labs.
In making these changes, BioArCh has completed 42 GILA actions including: 18 Energy actions, 7 Waste reduction actions and 5 Recycling actions.
The BioArCh Green Impact Team stated: “Like many research teams, we are conscious of the environmental impact of the work we do, and participation in Green Impact for Labs provides a tangible means to align our research endeavours with our desire to minimise the carbon footprint of the activities which drive them."
