Annabel is the only archaeologist to receive funding in this round.

Dr Annabell Zander, a recent PhD graduate of the Department, has been awarded a prestigious British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship to be held at York from 2023. The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship is a three year award made to an annual cohort of outstanding early career researchers in the humanities or social sciences. This scheme is extremely competitive, and the success rate in recent years has rarely exceeded 10%.

Annabel's project will explore human-environment interactions across the Pleistocene-Holocene transition in northwestern Europe, and will offer a critical re-assessment of this important period by joining up the fragmented archaeological record of the Palaeolithic-Mesolithic transition. She will develop a large database, harvesting data from published material and primary analyses of selected assemblages.
