The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide ranks York among the country's leading archaeology departments.

The Department of Archaeology has been named one of the UK’s most highly regarded departments for our subject. In The Times's league tables for 2020 we rank 6th for archaeology and forensic science.

Published annually, The Times University Guide ranks 132 UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects according to teaching quality; student experience; research quality; entry standards; graduate prospects; Firsts/2:1s; completion rate; student-staff ratio; and services/facilities spend.

The rankings are based on official data collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the National Student Survey published by HEFCE and the Research Excellence Framework 2014.

The following departments at York also received top 10 rankings: Biology, Chemistry, English, History, History of Art, Psychology, Social Policy and Social Work, York Management School, and Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media.
