Pride flag raising and parade 2025

Each year, we raise the Progress Pride Flag on campus to mark Pride Month, and members of our community take part in the York Pride Parade.

The flag raising, sponsored by Unison and UCU, took place on Wednesday 4 June.

The event was paused following protests raising awareness of the war in Gaza and of the recent Supreme Court Ruling on the definition of sex. After discussions with speakers and attendees, it was agreed to raise the flag and record the planned speeches after the event.

Each of the speakers raises important concerns and there are challenges identified for the University and our community. We're pleased to now share these videos with you.

You can also read the transcript of Charlie Jeffery's speech (York users only - access using your University Google account).

Thank you to everyone who came to the flag raising or joined us at the Pride Parade. Marking Pride can be both thought provoking and joyous: the rain on this year's parade didn't dampen spirits and it was lovely to see so many of our community taking part. We hope you enjoy these photos.
